Propeller Club Liverpool has been honoured with the Maritime Enabler Award at the Mersey Maritime Awards 2025, recognising a decade of transformational leadership in the North West’s maritime sector.

A Decade of Maritime Excellence

Since its establishment in 2015, Propeller Club Liverpool has delivered 120+ consecutive monthly networking events, establishing Liverpool as the region’s undisputed maritime hub. Our First Thursday gatherings have become the command centre for Liverpool’s maritime community – where deals are discussed, partnerships are forged, and industry challenges are solved.

Recognition for Transformational Impact

The award recognises our comprehensive contribution across multiple dimensions:

Global Maritime Leadership: Our London International Shipping Week Monday Evening Reception has become what attendees call a global “institution” – the must-attend event connecting international maritime leaders with Liverpool expertise. Through strategic partnerships with Mersey Maritime and regional leaders, we’ve transformed Liverpool from a regional player into a global maritime destination.

Innovation at Every Level: From supporting the Captain’s Table global startup competition connecting Liverpool to Hong Kong’s innovation hub, to nurturing primary school maritime education through the groundbreaking Animates project, we enable maritime innovation at every stage.

Building Tomorrow’s Workforce: Our active partnership with Liverpool John Moores University creates immediate career pathways for Maritime Masters graduates, whilst our educational initiatives plant seeds for the next generation of maritime professionals.

Business Development Catalyst: We’ve transformed competitors into collaborators, facilitating numerous business partnerships, joint ventures, and commercial collaborations. When maritime professionals in the North West need connections, contracts, or opportunities, Propeller Club Liverpool is their first destination.

Community Leadership: Beyond business networking, our Armed Forces Covenant commitment and seafarer welfare initiatives demonstrate our dedication to the broader maritime community, creating the social infrastructure that makes Liverpool an attractive destination for maritime investment and talent.

Why We Won

“This award recognises maritime enabling in its purest form,” said Sue Henney, Port Secretary. “For ten years, we’ve delivered consistent, impactful, transformational leadership. We haven’t just supported the maritime industry – we’ve helped architect its regional success, elevated its global profile, and secured its future prosperity.”

The judges recognised our proven track record of driving awareness, fostering innovation, enhancing efficiency, and engaging stakeholders across the entire maritime ecosystem – from primary school students to international shipping executives.

Regional Ecosystem Development

Our collaborative relationships have created the foundation of Liverpool’s maritime ecosystem, facilitating cross-sector partnerships that drive business development and creating a unified regional maritime voice that punches above its weight on the national and international stage.

Looking Forward

As we celebrate this recognition, Propeller Club Liverpool remains committed to our founding mission: bringing together maritime professionals and students, enabling meaningful connections, driving collaboration, and bridging generational gaps.

“We’ve had the privilege of doing great things while building lasting friendships and supporting our maritime community,” the organisation noted in their award submission. “That’s exactly what the Maritime Enabler Award recognises, and that’s precisely what we’ve delivered for ten years.”
