While Port Academy Liverpool was being opened up the road – down on the river there was some momentous activity as marine-based commissioning work got underway at Liverpool2 terminal.
The Mediterranean Shipping Company’s (MSC) has teamed up with Peel Ports for trials by using its vessel MV MSC Nederland for berthing and marine trials.
This will be followed by a variety of cargo handling tests throughout July and August, according to Peel Ports.
“This is yet another major milestone for the project and we’re delighted to have the involvement of MSC in the initial marine commissioning and berthing trials at Liverpool2,” David Huck, Port Director, said.
Next to 3,007 TEU MV MSC Nederland, four other MSC vessels will be used during the trials.
Liverpool2 is to have a phased opening through this summer with the first landside phase expected to be fully operational by autumn.
